Woodpeckers Pecking

For over an hour today, a woodpecker pecked at the metal protector on the top of our chimney.  He pecked and pecked and pecked until I thought he was going to peck his little “pecker” down to nothing.

Can woodpeckers peck through metal?  This little one sure gave it his all.

Soon, however, in response to his love song, a sweet companion arrived and joined in the rat-a-tat-tat chorus high-up in a nearby tree.

After a long, silent winter with no bird song at all, survival silence has been replaced by the sweet songs of love.

Could it be that spring is just around the corner?
